Animated tours introducing visitors to traditional crafts in relation to brewing (15 October)

On Saturday 15 October, the Dalešice Brewery in cooperation with the project partner, the Theatre Association D.U.S.O.T., organized animated tours of the brewery. According to the surveymade among the event´s participants, visitorscamefrom nearby area, but also from other regions such as Moravian-Silesian and Zlín ones,oreven from Prague. Information about the eventhad beenpromoted in advance via social media, leaflets, some of the visitors had been addressed also by direct invitation.

Peopleparticipatingin the tours,guided by the brewer and the custodian, had the opportunity to know more in detailtraditional crafts directly or indirectly linked to the brewing industry.Theycould learn about whatactivities each profession included in the days, where these crafts were common part of the society, e. g.maltster, brew-master, boilerman, machinist etc.Moreover, the visitors could observe the scenes from everyday life after work in the brewery. These were performed by the actors from D.U.S.O.T., who showed the sketches in the local pub presentingalso some of the unknown professionsas for instance a ´carry-man´, whose role was to carry on his back drunk people uncapable to find their way home themselves.When brewery workers got drunk, they were brought into their room, so-called´shalanda,´where theyusually lived. In the morning, they were woken up by aknocker-up, whose job was to rouse sleeping people so they could get to work on time.

The tours and performances were very well received, bringing a new dimension in terms of using the brewery premises for the purpose of cultural as social events, despite the unpleasant Autumn weather. The organisers got valuablevisitors´ feedback they can reflect on when preparing next actions and events.
