Reviving forgotten and disappearing crafts (15 October)

Simultaneously with the animated tours and performances, visitors had the opportunity to see andexperience other forgotten or disappearing crafts, namely cooper, wheelwright, blacksmith and coffin maker. The presentation of these professions took place thanks to the presence of the realcraft-persons, as in the case of coopers or blacksmiths who came from the Secondary Vocational School in Moravské Budějovice. In addition, other professions such as wheelwright, coffin maker were introduced and presented by young actors.

Thanks to the organization of the event in form of the thematic standpoints, visitors could try some ofthe activities related to the presented crafts. At the cooper's,they could see the barrels, compare how they looked in old times and how they look today, and also estimate the weight of an empty and a full barrel. Most were surprised by the weight of the barrel and would have found it difficult to carry the barrel of malt without the help of other hands. Atthe wheelwright's,they could touch the wooden wheelsorpush a historic wheelbarrow with a sack of malt. At the blacksmith's, theywere offered the possibility to forge a horseshoe, and at the coffinmaker's toexplore instruments used to make coffins. The events were accompanied by an exhibition of vessels used for drinkingbeer, from various materials: wood, ceramics, pewter and glass. The exhibitioncomprised also glasses provided by the Icelandic project partner Industry Museum Akureyri. Thanks to the well-chosen programme and the active involvement of the visitors, the events were both an opportunity to introduce visitors to professions that are not so common nowadays as well as theopportunity forthe interaction within the proposed activities. This Saturday in the Dalešice Brewery attracted a large number of visitors which contributed to reviving its premises thanks to the pleasant atmosphere and vibes on the side of all participants.
