Reviving forgotten and disappearing crafts (14 October 2023)

After animated tours and performances, visitors had the opportunity to see andexperience other forgotten or disappearing crafts. We have prepared a rich programme for all generations. For children, an interactive path with several ´stations´ was set. Here, children could test their knowledge about the crafts; after completing the tasks they received a small gift in the form of a wooden puzzle.

All visitors, especially parents with children, could prepare themselves pancakes and snakes on the fire from the dough, which tasted like a famous sweet called ,,trdelník". Among the crafts presented visitors could meet real blacksmiths and wheelwrights. We had also the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Fryzelka, one of five livingcoopers in the Czech Republic.Visitors learned everything about the cooper's craft, including a comparison between the work today and in old times. Last but not least, they could taste "Wallachian whisky" from a barrel produced by Mr. Fryzelka, who even revealed the secret of achieving such quality of his product. At the blacksmiths from the Secondary Vocational School in Moravské Budějovice, visitors experienced how difficult but at the same time beautiful blacksmithing is. Mr. Kolář showed again his authentic collection of instruments. This time he was accompanied by a laundress, who reminded us what life was like without an automatic washing machine. Moreover, thanks to the cooperation with the Icelandic partner, we were able to show the craft of the coffin maker.

Thanks to the event, visitors were taken to the time without mobile phones, automatic washing machines, electricity and other modern devices. Also, the actors of the theatre association D.U.S.O.T. wearing period costumes seemed to turn back time.Togetherwe could recall the traditional life of craftsmen and local rural inhabitants and feel a very good ambiance of the moment.
